Cusco City tour & Sacred Valley to Machu Picchu Itinerary.
Cusco City Tour – Half Day Adventure
We start at 1:00 PM with a pick-up from your hotel in Cusco, the historic capital of the Inca Empire. This Cusco City Tour is the perfect introduction to Peru’s rich cultural heritage, blending colonial landmarks with awe-inspiring Inca ruins.
Our first visit is the Cusco Cathedral, a masterpiece of colonial architecture located in the heart of the Plaza de Armas. Inside, admire centuries-old paintings from the Cusqueña school and ornately decorated altars made of gold and silver. Then we continue to Qoricancha, the Temple of the Sun, once the most sacred Inca site. You'll see how the Incas' finely carved stonework supports the later Spanish construction of the Santo Domingo convent, revealing the layered history of Cusco.
Next, we head to the surrounding hills to explore four key Inca archaeological sites. We begin with Sacsayhuamán, an enormous ceremonial fortress famous for its massive stone walls, some stones weighing over 100 tons, fitted together without mortar. Then we visit Qenqo, a spiritual site carved directly into rock, used for ceremonial rituals and believed to be a sacred space for astronomical observations.
We continue to Puca Pucara, known as the "Red Fortress" due to the color of its stones at sunset. It served as a military checkpoint and rest stop for Inca travelers. Finally, we arrive at Tambomachay, often called the Inca Baths, where beautifully constructed aqueducts still carry fresh water through terraced stone fountains. This site was likely dedicated to water rituals and the worship of natural elements.
We return to Cusco in the early evening, enriched with stories and insights from Peru’s majestic past.
