Day 1: Welcome to Cusco & Journey to Aguas Calientes
Your adventure begins the moment you arrive in the historic city of Cusco. Our team will be waiting to welcome you at the airport and assist with your transfer to the Sacred Valley. From there, we’ll enjoy a scenic drive to Ollantaytambo, a charming Inca town where you’ll board the train to Aguas Calientes, the gateway to Machu Picchu.
We highly recommend arriving in Cusco before 10:00 AM, as this gives us plenty of time to enjoy the beautiful landscapes along the route. As the train winds through the valley, watch the Andes unfold with breathtaking views of rivers, mountains, and cloud forests.
Upon arrival in Aguas Calientes, our local team will greet you at the station and escort you to your hotel. Settle in, relax, and get ready, tomorrow, you’ll explore one of the New Seven Wonders of the World. Tonight, you’ll stay overnight in Aguas Calientes, just steps away from Machu Picchu.
Day 2: Machu Picchu Guided Tour & Museum Visit
After an early breakfast at the hotel, we’ll take the shuttle bus up to the breathtaking Machu Picchu citadel, one of the New Seven Wonders of the World. To ensure the best experience, we highly recommend booking this tour 4–5 months in advance, so we can secure Circuit #2, the most comprehensive route offering access to the classic viewpoints and all major sectors of the site.
Your guided tour begins at the upper terraces, where you’ll take in the most iconic panoramic views of Machu Picchu, perfect for photos and quiet admiration. From there, your expert guide will lead you slowly through the key sectors of the citadel, offering in-depth insights into Inca architecture, religious traditions, and daily life. The full visit typically lasts around 2.5 hours.
After descending from the site, we’ll take a short walk to the Machu Picchu Museum (Casa Concha) located near the river. Here, you’ll gain deeper context on the site's discovery, archaeological significance, and history. Your guide will provide rich explanations that bring the past to life.
The afternoon is yours to enjoy at your own pace in Aguas Calientes, explore the local market, relax at a café, or soak in the hot springs. Overnight stay in Aguas Calientes.
Day 3: Huayna Picchu Hike & Return to the Sacred Valley
After an early breakfast, we return once more to the Machu Picchu citadel for a final and thrilling adventure, the hike to Huayna Picchu, the towering peak that rises behind the ruins. We’ll enter the site through Circuit #3, walking past key sectors of the citadel. Your guide will offer additional insights as you make your way to the Huayna Picchu checkpoint.
The hike itself takes about 40 minutes uphill, following a steep and narrow trail carved into the mountainside. It’s a challenging climb, not recommended for travelers with a fear of heights, but the reward is beyond words. At the summit, you'll be treated to jaw-dropping, bird’s-eye views of Machu Picchu, the Sacred Valley, and the surrounding Andean peaks. It truly feels like standing above the clouds.
After enjoying the panoramic views and soaking in the energy of this sacred mountain, we’ll carefully descend back through the citadel and say a heartfelt goodbye to this magical place. From here, we take the shuttle bus down to Aguas Calientes, where you'll have time for lunch (not included).
In the afternoon, we board the scenic train back to Ollantaytambo, located in the heart of the Sacred Valley, where you’ll spend the night surrounded by peaceful mountain landscapes.
Day 4: Sacred Valley Tour – Ollantaytambo, Moray, Maras & Chinchero
We begin the day with a hotel pickup in Ollantaytambo at 8:00 AM to start your full-day exploration of the remarkable Sacred Valley of the Incas. Our first stop is the impressive Ollantaytambo archaeological site, known for its massive stone terraces, ceremonial temples, and incredible Inca engineering. Enjoy a guided walking tour as you learn about its strategic importance in Inca history.
Next, we continue to the unique circular terraces of Moray, believed to be an ancient agricultural laboratory. Just nearby, we'll visit the famous Maras Salt Mines, where thousands of salt pools cascade down the mountainside, an unforgettable sight and a perfect photo stop.
Our journey then takes us to Chinchero, a charming Andean village rich in tradition. Explore the Inca ruins, colonial church, and a vibrant weaving center, where local artisans demonstrate ancient textile techniques still used today.
In the late afternoon, we return to Cusco, where you'll be dropped off at your hotel. Rest well, you’ve just explored the very best of the Sacred Valley.
Day 5: Hike to Rainbow Mountain & Red Valley
Today is one of the most unique experiences of your journey. We’ll start early with a pick-up from your hotel between 4:00 and 4:30 am, followed by a 2-hour drive southeast of Cusco to the village of Cusipata, where you'll enjoy a fresh, local breakfast.
Afterward, we continue for about 1 more hour to the trailhead at over 4,600 meters (15,000 ft). The hike begins with a gradual 2-hour ascent through stunning high-altitude landscapes, leading to the summit of Vinicunca (Rainbow Mountain) at 5,100 meters (16,732 ft). At the top, take your time to admire the natural rainbow-like mineral stripes that make this mountain so famous.
But the adventure doesn’t end there. After enjoying the view and snapping your postcard photos, we continue for another 45 minutes to the incredible Red Valley, known for its surreal Martian-like scenery and fewer crowds, a peaceful contrast to Rainbow Mountain.
Once we’ve explored both, we return by the same path to the trailhead, where our driver awaits. From there, we head back to Cusipata for lunch, then drive approximately 2 hours back to Cusco, arriving at your hotel around 5:00 pm.
