Salkantay Luxury Trek Itinerary
Day 1: Cusco – Soraypampa – Humantay Lake – Luxury Camp
We pick you up from your hotel in Cusco around 4:30 am and drive for 3 hours to Soraypampa (3,900 m), where your private chef will greet you with a hot breakfast. After getting ready, we begin a gradual 2-hour ascent to the stunning Humantay Lake, a glacial lagoon nestled beneath towering snowcapped peaks. This sacred site offers spectacular photo opportunities and a peaceful introduction to the Andes. After some time to explore and connect with the surroundings, we descend to Soraypampa for a gourmet lunch. In the afternoon, relax at your luxury campsite, featuring real beds, private tents, hot showers, and even a professional massage therapist to help your body recover. Enjoy a peaceful mountain evening with snacks, drinks, and a candlelit dinner under the stars.
Day 2: Soraypampa – Salkantay Pass – Wayracmachay – Collpapampa
Wake up to coca tea delivered to your tent and fuel up with a hearty breakfast. Today we hike to the highest and most breathtaking point of the trek: the Salkantay Pass (4,650 m / 15,255 ft). The 3-hour ascent is steady and rewarding, offering panoramic views of the mighty Salkantay Glacier, one of the most sacred mountains in the region. After time to rest and take photos at the summit, we descend into the cloud forest where the landscape transforms dramatically. At Wayracmachay, your chef will serve a gourmet lunch in a scenic spot. Then we continue another 3–4 hours through lush vegetation and waterfalls until reaching Collpapampa, where your luxury camp awaits. Enjoy a hot shower, soothing massage, and another excellent dinner with fine service and comfort.
Day 3: Collpapampa – Lucmabamba – Coffee Experience – Jungle Camp
After breakfast, we hike deeper into the high jungle, where the scenery is filled with waterfalls, wild orchids, butterflies, and tropical birds. This section is peaceful and offers great opportunities to connect with nature. After 5 hours, we arrive at Lucmabamba, a small coffee-growing community. Here, you’ll take part in an authentic coffee experience, learning how locals grow, roast, and prepare some of Peru’s finest organic coffee. After enjoying a fresh cup, your chef will serve a delicious lunch with local flavors. In the afternoon, settle into your luxury jungle camp with views of the lush valley below. Take a hot shower, enjoy a well-deserved massage, and relax before dinner. This evening is ideal for stargazing and reflecting on your journey so far.
Day 4: Lucmabamba – Llactapata – Hidroelectrica – Aguas Calientes
We begin with a final breakfast at camp, then hike along an original section of the Inca Trail toward Llactapata, a rarely visited archaeological site directly facing Machu Picchu. After about 3 hours of hiking, you’ll be rewarded with a truly unique panoramic view of the citadel from across the valley — a perfect moment for photos and quiet awe. After exploring Llactapata, we descend for about 2 hours to Hidroelectrica, where our chef will prepare your final gourmet lunch on the trail. After lunch, you’ll say farewell to your trekking team and continue on foot along the scenic train tracks (or take the optional train) to Aguas Calientes. Upon arrival, check into your comfortable hotel, take a hot shower, and enjoy a free evening in town to rest before visiting Machu Picchu.
Day 5: Machu Picchu – Cusco
Wake up early and take the first bus up to Machu Picchu, arriving before the crowds to enjoy the magical morning light. Your expert guide will lead a 2.5-hour private tour, sharing stories, history, and deep insights about the most important temples, plazas, and sacred spaces of this Inca wonder. If you’ve booked a ticket to hike Huayna Picchu or Machu Picchu Mountain, you’ll begin that adventure after the guided tour (optional, must be booked in advance). Later, return to Aguas Calientes for lunch (not included), then board the Vistadome Observatory train back to Ollantaytambo, where your private driver will meet you and take you to your hotel in Cusco. Arrival is around 7:30 pm, ending an unforgettable journey through the Andes in complete comfort.
