What You’ll Experience
Duration & Route: This 4-day, 3-night tour includes Cusco, the Sacred Valley, Ollantaytambo, and Machu Picchu. The itinerary begins with guided sightseeing in Cusco and the Sacred Valley, followed by a train ride to KM 104 to start the 2-Day Inca Trail. The trek follows ancient Inca paths through the Andean cloud forest, visiting Wiñay Wayna before arriving at Machu Picchu via the Sun Gate.
Trekking & Difficulty: The Short Inca Trail is rated moderate, with approximately 6 to 7 hours of walking on the main trekking day. The route includes uphill and downhill sections, stone steps, and uneven terrain. No prior trekking experience is necessary, but a reasonable level of fitness will enhance your comfort.
Altitude & Acclimatization: Cusco is located at approximately 3,400 m (11,155 ft), while the Sacred Valley is generally lower at about 2,750 m (9,022 ft). The trek begins at KM 104, around 2,100 m (6,890 ft), and gradually ascends to Wiñay Wayna and the Sun Gate before descending to Machu Picchu. Starting in Cusco and spending time in the Sacred Valley helps you acclimatize before the trek. If possible, we recommend arriving in Cusco 1–2 days before the tour, especially if you are coming from a low-altitude area.
