Day 03. Welcome to the Amazon – Journey to Your Jungle Lodge

Important: Please be sure to book your flight to arrive in Puerto Maldonado before 1:00 PM to ensure a smooth start to your rainforest adventure.

Upon arrival, our team will warmly welcome you at the airport and begin your journey deep into the heart of the Amazon. From the city, we travel 23 km by road and then 45 km by boat along the stunning Tambopata River, an unforgettable introduction to the rainforest.

As we cruise upriver, you’ll see the landscape shift dramatically from settled zones to untouched primary jungle. Along the way, keep an eye out for colorful birds, monkeys swinging through the trees, and maybe even caimans along the riverbanks. A boxed lunch will be served on board as your expert naturalist guide points out fascinating wildlife and plant life.

Upon arrival at your eco-lodge, settle into your comfortable cabin surrounded by pristine nature. Day 04: Lake Exploration, Wildlife Encounters & Night River Adventure

After a hearty buffet breakfast, we’ll hop on a short boat ride and begin a guided hike through the rainforest to the serene Condenado Oxbow Lake. Surrounded by dense jungle, this peaceful spot is perfect for birdwatching and observing both aquatic and land wildlife. We’ll quietly paddle across the lake in a canoe, keeping watch for herons, hoatzins, monkeys, and other incredible species.

Along the trail, your guide will introduce you to the towering giants of the rainforest, like the strangler fig and the mighty kapok tree, rising high above the canopy.

Day 05: Lake Sachavacayoc Adventure & Jungle Wildlife

Today we venture deeper into the rainforest to explore the untouched wetlands of Lake Sachavacayoc. After a short boat ride downriver, we begin an adventurous hike along a scenic jungle trail, crossing streams and marshy terrain via wooden walkways and rustic bridges.

Your naturalist guide will introduce you to towering trees like capirona, strangler figs, palo santo, bamboo groves, and several types of Amazonian palms. The air buzzes with life, birdsong, insects, and the rustle of wildlife hidden in the dense foliage.

Once we reach the lake, we’ll board a quiet paddle canoe to glide across its glassy waters. Keep your eyes peeled for black caimans, vibrant birds, and, if luck is with us, the elusive giant river otter or even a glimpse of the mythical green anaconda.

We return by a different trail, giving us another chance to spot capuchin or squirrel monkeys and other jungle treasures.

Day 06: Farewell Amazon & Flight to Cusco

Day 07: Cusco Walking Tour & Afternoon City Tour

Your day begins at 8:30 a.m. with a guided walking tour through the heart of Cusco, once the thriving capital of the Inca Empire. Stroll through the Main Square (Plaza de Armas), admire colonial arcades and the grand Cathedral, and walk along the famous Hatunrumiyoc Street, home to the iconic 12-angled stone. You'll explore Avenida El Sol, visit the historic San Francisco Square, and experience the vibrant colors and aromas of the San Pedro Market. The tour continues into San Blas, Cusco’s artisan district known for its narrow cobbled streets, galleries, and stunning city views ,  a perfect mix of culture and charm.

After a lunch break, your adventure resumes at 1:00 p.m. with a guided visit to Qorikancha, the most sacred temple of the Incas dedicated to the Sun God, once covered in gold and now part of the Santo Domingo Convent. From there, you'll drive to the surrounding hills to explore the four major Inca archaeological sites near Cusco.

First, marvel at Sacsayhuamán, an awe-inspiring fortress built with massive stone blocks that fit together without mortar, a true engineering wonder. Next, visit Qenqo, a spiritual site with carved tunnels and ceremonial altars thought to be used for rituals. Then continue to Puka Pukara, a small fortress with red-toned stones offering wide views over the Sacred Valley. Day 08: Sacred Valley Tour – Pisac, Ollantaytambo & Overnight Stay

Today begins with an 8:00 a.m. pickup from your hotel as we journey into the heart of the Sacred Valley. Our first stop is a local alpaca and llama farm, where you'll have the chance to feed these gentle animals and observe traditional Andean weaving techniques that have been passed down through generations.

Next, we visit the stunning Pisac archaeological site, perched on a mountainside with sweeping views of the valley below. Your guide will explain the significance of its intricate terraces and stone structures. After exploring the ruins, stroll through the colorful Pisac market, filled with handcrafted textiles, jewelry, and local produce,  a perfect opportunity to soak in Andean culture and pick up unique souvenirs.

We’ll then head to Urubamba for a delicious buffet lunch, featuring a variety of fresh regional dishes in a scenic, relaxing setting.

Day 09: Short Inca Trail – First Views of Machu Picchu

Today is the big day! At 5:45 a.m., we’ll pick you up from your hotel in Ollantaytambo and walk to the train station to catch the 6:00 a.m. train. Enjoy a scenic ride along the Urubamba River, watching the landscape shift from highland valleys to lush cloud forest. We’ll disembark at KM 104, the official starting point of the Short Inca Trail.

After passing the checkpoint with your original passport, your unforgettable hike on the legendary Royal Inca Trail begins.

The first stretch is a moderately challenging 3.5-hour ascent through dense vegetation, ancient Inca stairways, and vibrant orchids. Early on, we’ll visit Chachabamba, a ceremonial site thought to have served as a ritual gateway to Machu Picchu. As we climb higher, the trail offers ever more rewarding views of the surrounding mountains and river below.

We then reach Wiñay Wayna, one of the most stunning Inca sites along the trail, a complex of agricultural terraces, ritual fountains, and temples. Often called a “mini Machu Picchu,” this hidden gem is a favorite among hikers. Here, we’ll take a break and enjoy a tasty box lunch in a serene Andean setting.

The final leg of the journey is a gentle climb to Inti Punku (the Sun Gate), where you'll get your first dramatic panoramic view of Machu Picchu, an unforgettable moment that marks your official arrival at the Lost City of the Incas.

Day 10: Explore Machu Picchu – Return to Cusco

After an early breakfast at your hotel, we’ll catch one of the first shuttle buses to Machu Picchu, arriving in the quiet morning hours when the citadel is at its most peaceful. As a Short Inca Trail hiker, you’ll enter through Circuit 3, in line with current regulations, this route offers an intimate experience of Machu Picchu’s core, featuring its sacred plazas, temples, water fountains, and agricultural terraces.

Your expert guide will lead a 2.5-hour walking tour, sharing fascinating insights into Inca engineering, spiritual beliefs, and daily life. As you explore, the ruins will come alive through stories and legends, deepening your connection to this awe-inspiring place.

If you’ve pre-booked a Huayna Picchu permit (additional $75 USD), you’ll have the chance to hike this dramatic peak. Though the trail is steep and challenging, the reward is an unforgettable bird’s-eye view of the entire Machu Picchu complex. The hike takes about 2 hours round-trip.

After your visit, you’ll return by shuttle to Aguas Calientes, with free time to enjoy lunch at your leisure and browse local shops. In the afternoon, we board the train back to Ollantaytambo, where our private vehicle will be waiting to take you to Cusco. You’ll arrive at your hotel around 7:30 p.m., ending the day with incredible memories of one of the world’s most iconic wonders.

Day 11: Rainbow Mountain & Red Valley – A Journey Beyond the Ordinary

Today offers one of the most breathtaking and unique highlights of your Peruvian adventure. We’ll pick you up early from your Cusco hotel between 4:00 and 4:30 am, then embark on a scenic 2-hour drive through the Southern Valley to the village of Cusipata, where a warm, freshly prepared local breakfast will energize you for the day ahead.

From Cusipata, we continue by vehicle for about an hour to the trailhead at 4,600 meters (15,092 ft). The hike begins with a gradual 2-hour ascent, surrounded by spectacular views of snowcapped peaks, herds of alpacas, and the surreal beauty of the Andes.

At the summit of Vinicunca (Rainbow Mountain), perched at 5,100 meters (16,732 ft), you’ll witness the stunning, naturally colored mineral layers that give the mountain its name. This kaleidoscope of reds, yellows, and purples is one of nature’s most unique creations.

But the adventure doesn’t end there. We continue with a 45-minute hike to the Red Valley, a striking and lesser-visited landscape where deep crimson hills roll into the distance. This hidden gem offers a peaceful, almost otherworldly experience away from the crowds.

After soaking in both natural wonders, we return to the trailhead and drive back to Cusipata for a delicious lunch. From there, a relaxing 2-hour drive brings you back to Cusco, with arrival at your hotel around 5:00 pm, your heart and camera full of unforgettable highland memories.

Day 12: Scenic Journey from Cusco to Puno – The Iconic Sun Route

Today you'll travel from Cusco to Puno along the famous Sun Route, a beautiful journey through the Andes filled with cultural and historical highlights. After a 6:20 AM hotel pickup, you'll board a comfortable tourist-class bus with guided stops along the way.

Your first visit is to Andahuaylillas Church, known as the “Sistine Chapel of the Andes” for its stunning colonial artwork. Then, explore the impressive Raqchi ruins, once a key Inca religious site.

At the La Raya Pass (4,335 m), the highest point on the route, take in breathtaking views of the surrounding mountains. Later, visit the Pukara Museum, showcasing ancient stone carvings and artifacts from pre-Inca cultures.

Enjoy a delicious buffet lunch en route, and arrive in Puno around 5:30 PM, where you’ll be transferred to your hotel, ready for your next adventure at Lake Titicaca.
